Live Poker vs. Online Poker

As you may have already noticed, I tend to blog mostly about playing live poker, in brick and mortar casino tournaments, or the Metro Card Club Davao. However, online poker has also become increasing popular in recent years, so here’s a quick look at the advantages to be had from playing both.

Of course, one of the main advantages of playing online is that it can be extremely convenient. Fortunately, we have a great card club right here in Davao, but not all poker enthusiasts are so lucky. Online poker platforms allow players to take part in games are tournaments from the comfort of their own home, no matter where in the world they might be based. Online sites also provide players with the opportunity to play at any time of the day or night.

Those who are new to the game of poker sometimes prefer to start out by playing online. This can often seem much less intimidating that being sat opposite players who have much more experience. Sites such as Party Poker also offer the opportunity to take part in ‘play money’ games, which isn’t usually possible within a live poker tournament. This can allow players to perfect their skills and techniques, without the risk of playing using real money.

However, possible the largest disadvantage of online poker is that it is not possible to read the body language of the other players. In the same way, it is not as straightforward when it comes to keeping a ‘poker face’ yourself. As you are not able to see those who you are playing against, this can sometimes make their actions more difficult to interpret. In the same way, those who only ever play online poker may be more prone to giving themselves away when it comes to live poker games.
